DSEHC is offering Advanced Group Skills Training for the upcoming 2010-11 hockey season for AAA/AA caliber players to continue their skill development beyond their normal evening practices.  This program is an alternative for players who are serious about hockey and can take advantage of the extra time made available by Off Campus PE (OCPE), home school, private school, etc to attend the group skills sessions either in the mornings or afternoons based on their school schedule.

Background

The main goal of this program will be to focus on developing each player’s individual skills in a competitive group setting. Most teams do not work on skills on a regular basis during their normal practices as they tend to focus on systems and flow drills. This is a great way for players during the fall to continue to improve their skills throughout the fall season. These sessions are for players who are serious and dedicated about the game and have goals to move onto the next level.

With many hockey programs and players across North America becoming more skilled, our program wants to offer opportunities to players in the Metroplex to have the same advantages for skill improvement. Since players will be also skating with fall teams, the coaches will set drills and skills up so players aren't becoming too fatigue during the season.

-          Skating - More powerful strides, over speed training, more explosive starts, power turns, and advance power skating to help balance and edges.
-          Stick-handling - improve hand speed, puck extension, skate with head up, more creative with the puck and how to make fakes
-          Shooting/Scoring - Shoot harder, teach players how to deke the goalie, teach players to shoot with their feet moving, shooting with head up.
-          Position Specific -  Defenseman and Forwards
