Tier 1 Girls Thrive at Can/Am Tournament
The U14 and U16 Tier 1 DSE Girls posted a strong showing at the Can/Am Sixth Annual Madison Challenge Cup, placing 3rd and 2nd place respectively in a nine team division. The U14s posted a 2-0-3 overall tournament record, with wins over the Madison Capitols and San Jose Jr. Sharks, and tying the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals, Chicago Mission and St. Louis Lady Blues. The U16s posted a 3-1-1 overall record, winning games vs Team Illinois, Thunder Bay Queens and Palmer Pioneers, while tying the Lady Rough Riders and losing only in the championship to the Madison Capitols 2-1.
The DSE Girls program continues to show a rapid trajectory towards a premier Girls Hockey Development Program in the country. Coach Salekin commented on the tournament… “It is nice to see the players' hard work and development get noticed on the national level. We have proved this season that our Tier1 U16 and U14 teams match up against the strongest girls' teams across North America. It is exciting that our success is also being noticed by NCAA programs around the country. We have had a player recently commit to Yale University and I expect more to follow with NCAA commitments in the coming months. We have come a long way as a girls' hockey program in the recent years. It is exciting to see the DSE Girls organization providing Texas female hockey players with a strong development path to college hockey."
The Dallas Stars Elite Girls Hockey Club is excited to announce our 2016 Spring Training Program. Our Spring Camp is geared towards individual skill development. We have top level coaches who are eager to help each player achieve new goals. Our staff will include power skating specialist Luke Chilcott, goaltending coach Thomas Spear, professional coach Steve Martinson, Coach Erik Jansen, as well as Stars Elite coaches Mike Salekin, Jordan Elkins, Stef Skinner, and Josh Adams.
Spring Camp is geared towards individual skill development. This camp is for like-minded AA/AAA level players and those who are motivated and committed to become better hockey players. We will provide players exposure to the Stars Elite program and educate the players on future College opportunities. Each on-ice and off-ice training session will have a purpose behind it. The on-ice sessions will be composed of skill sessions, concept sessions, or game sessions. In the skills session we will work directly on individual skills (passing, shooting, stickhandling, shooting). The concept sessions will be a high pace practice focusing on game situations to help players make better decisions with and without the puck. These include:
• Puck Support - Players will learn why it is important to move their feet and support the puck.
• Defensive Skills - Angling, stick position, body positioning, back checking, importance of taking away time and space, covering players away from the puck, and using an active stick to take away passing lanes.
• Game Awareness- Players will learn to communicate and know what to do before they get the puck, not after.
• Driving the net- Players away from the puck will learn how to drive the net.
• Game Situations- Coaches will help players understand how to make better decisions with and away from the puck in game situations (1 on 1, 2 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 2, 3 on 3, and 5 on 5).
• Breakouts and Regroups- Position specific skills taught going from defense to offense quickly
In the game sessions the players will play a full-ice game with referees. There will be in-game coaching to make sure the players are getting the most out of the scrimmage.
Below you will see the camp schedule for both Tier1 and Tier2 girls. All girls who played Tier1 (U14/U16/U19) last year will be placed in the Tier1 group. All other participants (U10/U12/U14) will be placed in the Tier2 group. After the first sessions, coaches will select to have some Tier2 participants skate with the Tier1 group.
To sign up… please have your daughter fill out the attached form and return it with a $315 check. The cost of the camp will be the most economical hockey camp in town. We are providing this economic opportunity for the group with the goal of growing girls’ hockey around the area. The check is payable to the Dallas Stars Elite Girls and must be submitted to Steve Jahnke, Monica Weese, or Mike Salekin by March 19th .
Mailing Address to send a check if needed:
3323 Renaissance Drive Dallas, TX 75287
The camp has been developed to accommodate 20 players in each group. The first 20 camp spots will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. If we do not fill the 20 spots, we will open it up to the boys. Please RRSVP a spot by submitting your check ASAP. A prompt response will help us finalize our plan to give your daughter the best possible spring hockey experience.
