Stu Barnes will help coach the Dallas Stars Elite U11 (2000 birth year) youth hockey team with Head Coach Trevor Hanas for their fall season.
Stu was drafted fourth overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played 16 seasons the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, and Dallas Stars. His successful career included 1,346 games. He also served as captain and assistant captains on several NHL teams. He also skated in 116 career Stanley Cup Playoff games over 12 postseasons, 38 of those games with Dallas.
Barnes announced his retirement as a player on August 28, 2008 and joined the Stars as an assistant coach.
